The Great Front of House Project of 2009
BEFORE 1: My son Derek replaced the original sidewalk 15 years ago (or more) with these aggregate slabs, each 36 inches square (approximately a metre). Each is positioned 6 feet (2 metres) from the wall, just outside the area covered by the overhang of the roof.

BEFORE 5: On the other side of the steps is a narrow flower bed, edged with more railway ties. Derek constructed this at the same time as thr walk, shortly after all the windows in the house were replaced (and this bay window installed) in November 1994.

After 2: Where the old walk was, is now the edge of a new flower bed, while we can walk from the door to the driveway under cover. Given the direction of the prevailing winds, this area under the overhang receives almost no snow, hence provides a sheltered walk all year round!
