Early in the morning, Adriaan picked us up and drove us to another section of the city not far from the downtown core. We parked near this interesting group of buildings which were being renovated.

We turned a corner and there, at the end of the street, was the ONLY decrepit building we saw in Gent. It fairly begged to have its picture taken!

Adriaan explained that these houses had once been occupied (and some still are, I suppose) by wealthy widows who wanted a life of comfortable seclusion. The blocks of houses are built around a church.
