This small gun, a 6 pounder on a rather undersized naval carriage, was recovered from one of the vessels of Arnold's fleet, burned by the Americans as they retreated. It sits in front of the National Guard armoury.

Turning 180 degrees, we see the Champlain Canal which now occupies the bed of the former Wood Creek, the route followed by the retreating Americans and the pursuing British army under Burgoyne.

Hydraulic lock-gate mechanism. The canal was extensively used in the 19th century but now sees only pleasure craft. The other end of the canal is on the Hudson River roughly opposite Burgoyne's final camp at Saratoga.
