Kojonup lies in the interior of the aouthwestern corner of Australia, east of Margaret Rivr and north of Albany. Kodja Place won a national heritage award the year I was there. It is as honest an effort as might be expected to explore the changing relationship betweem Aborigines and European settlers and thus is a VERY special place.

Some years ago, Brian Drake, a former Diehard (Middlesex Regiment) responded to a request for information I had placed on the Diehard website in England. We have been exchanging jokes, etc., ever since. Brian and his wife Joan live in Calgary so Sue and I took the opportunity of our Christmas visit to get together with them and another old Diehard, Dave Vitler.

Sue's parents spend their summers at a cottage on Leonard Lake, one of the smaller Muskoka lakes, between Bracebridge and Port Carling, Ontario. Sue and I usually spend a week each summer or fall at the cottage. It is both beautiful and peaceful and the kitties always enjoy watching the chipmunk races.

By October, usually only the last flowers on the perennial sunflowers are in bloom. However, 2005 was a very exceptional year. These photos were all taken on October 2, 2005, when the temperature on the deck was 32C or 90+F. This is unheard of in this area. Just look at the roses!

On Saturday, 25 February 2006, the annual "Clans" bonspiel broke out at the Huntley Curling Club in Carp, Ontario. Our team consisted of Sue, Kevin and I, plus Honouray Needham Ann Moore, hereinafter to be known as "Auntie Ann". We lost our two games rather badly, but won the trivia quiz, so didn't come away empty-handed. The curling was fun, the players most congenial and the food was excellent, so everyone had a great time and ignored the snowstorm raging outside all day.

On May 7th 2006, We celebrated our friend Vicki's birthday at a party organized by her pal Lynn in the beautiful open woods that comprise much of his farm. Deep in the woods. The wet woods. The deep, wet woods, with the muddy trail. The one we walked miles along to find the clearing where the party would take place, with everyone roasting sausages and drinking wine around a fire. What a terrific idea for a party. Everyone had a GREAT time, especially as we got to RIDE back to the cars!

In late February 2007, Angie and Meaghan paid us a visit, along with Uncle Kev. Meaghan was born in December in Calgary so this was the first time we had met the young lady.

In early October 2009, I joined the Digital Camera Club at the Kanata Seniors Centre. A week later, I participated in my first monthly photo shoot with the club to a nearby nature trail. Instead of the expected 30 members, only 4 of us hardy souls showed up. The fact that it was just after first light on a cold, drizzly morning may explain the disappearances

The National Capital Commission's "Green Belt" begins 100 metres from our houe and, on 18 November 2009, I took a short stroll in the cold morning sunlight. Returning home, I also took the last few photos in our front garden, which photos I will be moving to another album.

Weeks before she, Matt and the offsprung arrived in Ottawa in early August 2009, Angela was organizing a picnic of three generations of Melkman descendants and their spouses at Pinhey's Point on the Ottawa River in rural Kanata, ONTARIO.

For 25 years, my son Derek has been telling me we should move the front walk of the house to a protected location under the overhang of the roof. For 10 and more, Sue has been saying the same thing. Two years ago, we replaced a major retaining wall around the pool. In 2008, we laid ceramic tile in much of the basement, redecorated the area. and installed an "airtight" furnace in the fireplace, which has been wonderful in its first winter, and on which we could even cook in the event of a power failure! Today, May 21, 2009, we completed our latest renovation project.
